Jesuit Volunteers Philippines : Spreading hope, building a nation

The voices of a powerful array of internationally acclaimed artists and the inspiring stories of hope and service of the Jesuit Volunteers Philippines (JVP) will come together in a one-of-a-kind event on November 13, 2005 at the Philamlife Theater, United Nations Avenue , at 6:30 in the evening.

The benefit concert entitled, “The Joy of Sharing: Songs and Stories of Hope” , will feature artists who have brought pride to our country: Monique Wilson and Jamie Rivera both played lead role Kim in Miss Saigon in London; Jed Madela bested 51 countries and emerged as champion in the 2005 World Championships of the Performing Arts; Bimbo Cerrudo has earned respect as a versatile performer in the local and international scene; and Pipo Lina, an upcoming artist, represents today's youth who wish to serve God and country. The unique blend of performers will be accompanied by Jed Belsamo on piano, under the direction of multi-awarded George de Jesus III.

Proceeds from the concert will help support the programs of JVP. Under its full-time Volunteer Service Program, the JVP recruits, trains, forms, and sends fresh college graduates and young professionals to under-resourced institutions and communities in Bukidnon, Masbate, Samar , Cotabato and other parts of the country. For at least one year, they teach, work in parishes and indigenous communities, and organize farmers, fisherfolk, and the youth. JVP is the longest-running volunteer organization of this kind and has served as an inspiration and model for other volunteer organizations subsequently established in the Philippines . Now, on its 26 th year, JVP will add a part-time volunteer service program in response to the growing need to involve more people in nation-building through faith-driven volunteer service. The new program will begin on JVP's next program year in May 2006.

In the midst of darkness, JVP lets its light of hope shine through the fusion of music and stories that will fill your hearts with hope, love and a strong desire to serve our brother and sister Filipinos in need.
